It's kind of obvious, but for every key moment in the history of Christianity, there are people whose ideas, stories, hopes and beliefs influence and affect the formation of faith. In this section, we'll walk through some of the stories of those who have gone before. From the early Church Fathers, to Constantine, Francis of Assisi and through Luther's Reformation, we'll consider their actions over 2000 years.

At present, our church history updates will focus on the YouTube videos you can find through this page. More material will be added as it becomes available.

Martin Luther (1483-1546)

On the 31st October 2017, the ‘Protestant’ Christian world commemorated the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. A number of conventions and traditions of the church were challenged as Protestant (or "protesting") Churches broke from Roman Catholicism from 1517 onward, beginning with Martin Luther's questions about ‘indulgences’ due to its lack of Biblical support. Luther's ideas and writings were so significant to this event that his name became synonymous with the new German Church - the Lutherans. This video offers an overview of his story.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945)

On 9 April 1945, German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was among a group of resisters executed at Flossenbürg concentration camp. In short yet eventful 39 years, Bonhoeffer made a remarkable impact as an academic, pastor, thinker and innovator. This video introduces the people and events that shaped his life, and discusses what makes him such a compelling figure for study.
