Psalms is a book full of prayers, hymns and reflections. It is the largest book in the Bible, which makes the length of this summary strange – but that is largely because there is little in the way of narrative or storytelling. A vast bulk of the material in Psalms is actually attributed to the musician-King David, which is why I am referring to it here. Accordingly, many of the Psalms have tones of repentance and suffering, reflecting the regret and despair of David’s many trials.
